Glazier 

As a glazier, you measure, cut, finish, fit and install flat glass mirrors for windows, skylights, display cases, interior walls and ceilings.

A typical day may involve:

  • determining type and dimensions of glass required
  • laying glass over patterns on padded tables and in jigs
  • measuring and marking glass for cutting
  • examining glass and marking defective areas
  • cutting along patterns and templates
  • breaking off sheets and excess glass with notched tools and glass pliers
  • smoothing rough edges using belt sanders and smoothing wheels
  • coating, cutting, etching, trimming and treating glass to achieve special effects

It helps to be good at:

  • physical tasks 
  • customer service 
  • using tools and machinery 

Qualifications/pathway options:

  • Cert III Glass and Glazing
  • Apprenticeship
